What is a pet microchip?
A pet microchip is a high-tech device which enables dog owners to list their pet and their contact details in a database to increase their chances of finding their pets if they ever go missing. Microchips provide a permanent pet identification which is highly reliable and secure. 
A pet microchip is equipped with a radio-frequency identification transponder fitted inside a grain-like capsule which can easily be fitted or implanted in a dog’s tissue. A pet microchip stores a specific ID number which will enable the recovery of the pet owner’s contact details. With the aid of a microchip scanner, radio frequency signals which are emitted by the implanted pet microchip can be read in order to reveal the microchip’s specific ID code. The ID number can then be retrieved from a database in order to retrieve the owner’s contact information. The owner is then contacted to inform him about his pet’s whereabouts.
